Interlinked rod-and-link curtains that lock your unit shut while the interior stays visible, lit and ventilated — the shopping-centre standard. From £2,200 supplied and fitted.
Some frontages shouldn’t disappear at night. Inside a shopping centre, an arcade or a food court, a blank steel wall reads as “closed for good” — and centre management usually won’t allow one anyway. A rolling grille is the answer: a curtain of interlinked aluminium or steel rods that locks your unit shut while keeping the whole interior visible, ventilated and lit.
Supplied and fitted from £2,200. Prices may differ slightly or increase depending on exact size and design requirements.
Shopping centre and mall units — most centres mandate open grilles so the mall stays bright and browsable after hours; we fit to landlord spec and can evidence compliance for your fit-out approval. Indoor arcades and kiosks — coffee bars, phone accessory stands and food-court counters that need air moving overnight.
Car parks and communal entrances — vehicle and pedestrian openings where ventilation is a building-regs requirement, not a preference. Bars and serveries — locking the bar without boxing it in. If your unit faces open street rather than an indoor concourse, compare a perforated shutter — outdoors, its closed curtain usually protects better.
An honest answer: a grille stops entry, not sight or air — that’s its job. The interlinked rod-and-link curtain resists pulling and levering, locks into side guides with bullet locks or motor locking, and puts a physical barrier between people and stock. What it doesn’t do is hide anything or stop a determined attack on the goods through the curtain — so we don’t recommend grilles for street-facing jewellers or high-value electronics. Indoors, with centre security and CCTV around it, a grille is exactly the right tool. Outdoors with valuable stock, step up to punched-hole (£2,200) or solid (£1,500). The full comparison is on our roller shutters guide.
Straight-rod grille (the classic mall look), brick-pattern link grille for a denser lattice, and tube-and-link variants where the landlord specifies them. Aluminium curtains as standard — light, corrosion-free, easy on motors — with steel available where extra mass is wanted.
Powder-coating to any RAL colour; most centre specs call for silver or graphite, most brands match their fascia. Compact canopy options where headroom is tight (common in older arcades — we measure this at survey, not on fitting day).
Grille curtains are the lightest we fit, so manual push-up operation is genuinely practical on smaller units. For anything opened daily — or wide mall frontages — electric operation with key switch or remote makes open-up a ten-second job, with manual override included for power cuts. CE/UKCA-marked to BS EN 13241; made to measure in 7–10 working days; fitted in a day, usually outside your trading hours — overnight fitting for centre units is routine for us.
Grilles have more moving joints than any lath shutter, so the annual service matters: links checked and lubricated, guides aligned, locks and motor tested — and it keeps powered grilles PUWER-compliant. Damaged links can usually be replaced in sections without a new curtain. Jammed grille an hour before the centre opens? Emergency repair, 24/7.
